Johan was born in Ystad 1989, brought up in Malmö and moved to Höganäs / Lerberget in 1991. Johan began fooling around on violin, drums and piano at the age of four. He took up the alto sax at the age of nine and played on his first jazz gig at the age of 10 together with his big brother Einar on piano.
Johan met his main influence and teacher Tomas Trulsson at the municipal music school in Höganäs.
But his eclectic musical education really began with his personal investigation of his parents’ record collection. Spanning everything from Bach to Pat Metheny and gamelan music to the Beatles, Johan explored it all avidly, taking a special interest in albums by Kenny Garrett and David Sandborn. Johan is playing alto saxophone, soprano saxophone and flute.
At 16 years of age Johan started to study at the Bigband High School Kulturama in Stockolm. There he met professional players like Robert Nordmark, Mats Holmquist and Johan Hörlen. Those musicians gave Johan high octane input.
He spent important years in Stockholm, developing his skills. Johan been studying music at Kulturama Big Band High School in Stockholm, Skurup Music School, Royal College Of Music in Stockholm and as exchange student in Texas US.
